Red Paint People

Chihene is the name our ancestors gave themselves. It means Red Paint People.
All Apaches from the region whether they were known as the Warm Springs, Ojo Caliente,
Mimbres, Coppermine, or Gila Apache identified themselves as the Chihene.
Chihene Nde is essentially interpreted as the Red Paint People of the Apache Nation.
